The Gauntlight is a colossal ruined lighthouse atop a crumbling keep on a marsh island outside Otari. Long thought deserted, it lit up without warning weeks before the campaign opened — the first activation in living memory — and was identified as the site of the Rose Guard's final battle against the sorcerer Belcorra [S1]. The surface complex houses the boss's former lair, a boathouse, an office, a devotion room, the Chapel of Nimbaloth, and a force-caged lantern chamber at its summit, with hidden stairs descending into the multi-level Abomination Vaults below [S3]. Its blue beam blinds, teleports creatures, and drives undead surges over Otari; the oracle Rin linked the cupola to Belcorra channeling her essence through it [S5]. A door inscription deep inside declares the structure a weapon constructed to raze Absalom [S20]. Despite partial disabling, the Gauntlight remained powered [S26], and the town pressed the party to push deeper through its Thresholds of Truth to end the threat [S33]. Over dozens of sessions the party descended through libraries, morlock warrens, gladiatorial arenas, flesh-warping laboratories, devil prisons, a Hellforge, and ever-deeper cavern wings [S48][S61]. The masquerade host encountered in S44 was confirmed to be a survivor from the Gauntlight's original operating era, underscoring the site's ancient scale. As of [S62], the deepest accessible level holds a devil prison run by Aravian, with the route to lower floors — including an elevator to a rumored 'farm' and the Darklands cavern — still sealed by Aravian's magic and a rubble wall. In S64 the party uses the long route out to avoid the grave knight, then returns through the cave entrance on Desnus 26. The warded pentagram/fragment door becomes the new cliffhanger when Abbas inspects it with prayer and detect magic and the runes begin to open.

The Gauntlight entered the story as an ominous reactivation: a lighthouse that had been dark for generations suddenly blazing over the Otari marshes [S1]. Battle scars only weeks old marked the surface ruins when the party first arrived, relics of the Rose Guard's confrontation with the sorcerer Belcorra. The surface keep held a boss lair, boathouse, chapel of Nimbaloth, and a force-caged lantern chamber at the summit, with concealed stairs descending into the dungeon [S3].
Early exploration revealed the lighthouse's active malice. Its blue beam blinded, teleported creatures including the quill-spider, and correlated directly with undead surges over Otari — wisps in the swamp, scalathraxes at the fishery [S5][S18]. The oracle Rin theorized that Belcorra was channeling her essence through the cupola itself. Below the lighthouse the party mapped an expanding dungeon: morlock warrens serving a Ghost Queen cult, ghoul cultists of the Canker, a teleportation-room network that sent monsters into town, a blue light tied to sacrifice, a gibbering pond, a devil cell block, and a ghoul-infested library [S8][S10][S12]. Deeper still, a door inscription confirmed the structure's original purpose: a weapon built to raze Absalom [S20]. The beam's visible fattening in S17 signaled escalating threat.
The party partially disabled the tower in the mid-campaign, but the Gauntlight remained stubbornly 'on' [S26]. Their maps showed floors with a library, Joel's flooded room, looping stairs, the Aurora's lounge suites, and the Voidglutton's lair. They navigated portal rooms, Velhor's quarters, a watching-eye room, and a fiery barrier near a hands altar [S27]. The dungeon was already revealing itself as far larger than any early survey suggested.
After recovery in Otari, the town urged the party to advance through the Thresholds of Truth 'as soon as possible' to end the monster threat [S33]. Belcorra's journal pages, recovered from the basement, shed light on the structure's deliberate construction [S34]. Monsters continued appearing near Otari — attributed directly to the Gauntlight's activity — keeping pressure on the party's return [S35]. A lore anchor arrived in S44: the masquerade host they encountered had made himself a mummy specifically to survive since 'the age of the Gauntlight's operation,' placing the site's origins in a deep historical era and making clear the dungeon's threats were ancient rather than improvised.
The lower floors the party reached across sessions 40–55 were increasingly purpose-built and horrifying. A gladiatorial arena complex with symmetrical fighter quarters gave way to flesh-warping laboratories run by Sagathi operations [S41][S48]. A cavern pool with a sulfurous orange glow, a circular chamber behind a 15-foot pentagram door, a pillar-room of frozen creatures, and the witch fire's patrol route all marked the deepening descent [S54]. S55 brought Doriana's lair — a trophy-hand room, a teenage-girl shrine, a corridor of crawling hands, and a black-walled will-o-wisp chamber designed to simulate the void of oblivion — alongside cells housing chakram creatures and Dreshkins drilling in formation.
The Gauntlight's surface ruins remained a functional exit route: in S56 the party escaped a grave knight by surfacing through the keep, past the little mitflits, and out to Otari.
The party reviewed accumulated maps in S57 — arena complex, mummy chamber, slime/jelly rooms, torture chamber, kitchen, sauna/spa, caves, reservoir — then physically explored the spa and sauna wing. S58 covered Vollok's lounge and Lazda's chamber, the library, and a route pointing toward the Darklands. S59 traversed Volok's basement workshops, the hall of paintings, the spiral staircase, portal rooms, and the lower floor with witch-fire and Corloc's squad. The beacon's original function was still felt: S60 explicitly reaffirmed that the lighthouse light remains tied to monsters being resurrected around Otari.
As of [S62], the party operates on the dungeon's deepest confirmed level: a devil prison administered by Aravian, containing a slain philosopher, an imp's room, a gug, and a summoning chamber. The elevator down to a rumored 'farm' and further floors remains blocked, and the route to the Darklands cavern is sealed by Aravian's magic and a rubble wall. The pentagram door and Darklands access lie ahead — unbreached. The Gauntlight above continues to pulse light tied to resurging Otari monsters, and the full depth of the megadungeon remains unresolved.
The flooded-chamber thread pays off immediately after the hydra fight. The party searches the deep water by boat and magic, finds a submerged bracelet and the fourth silver/star-pendant fragment, and fights the hidden star glagon guarding the bottom [S63, 00:17:24; S63, 00:49:15]. The chamber itself becomes the enemy: the star glagon raises the water level, blasts the party with a water torrent, and destroys the Greater Folding Boat before Veve kills it [S63, 01:10:03; S63, 02:56:39; S63, 03:06:30]. Venris then finds a ceiling double-door route connecting back toward a known grave-knight-associated room, after which Abbas's Augury helps push the group toward retreating to town instead of pressing farther [S63, 03:17:50; S63, 03:19:39].
S64 starts with a careful escape rather than another deep push. Venris hears the grave knight's metal steps by the library route, and the party detours out through older paths to reach Otari [S64, 00:36:22; S64, 00:43:53]. After a full town day, they return through the cave entrance on Desnus 26, debate whether to face Uravian or the grave knight first, and inspect the warded door despite apparently missing one of five fragments [S64, 03:59:45; S64, 04:02:49; S64, 04:05:45]. Abbas's prayer-and-detect-magic inspection lights the runes and the door begins to open, shifting the Gauntlight's immediate frontier from "how do we get in?" to "what is waiting behind it?" [S64, 04:14:08; S64, 04:14:33].
