A catch-up overview of the whole Abomination Vaults campaign, sessions 1–64, drawn entirely from session transcripts. Player-character names are GM-confirmed: Veve Hao (the bard), Cidolfus de Mulond (the fighter), Venris Greystone (the rogue), and Abbas Visaegok (the cleric). Claims cite session and timestamp.

The star-reader Wrin Sivinxi gathered four strangers at the Crook's Nook in Otari because the long-dead Gauntlight lighthouse had mysteriously begun to glow again (S1, 00:12:25). Veve Hao, an orphaned street bard; Cidolfus de Mulond, a disgraced count of Mulon framed for regicide and hunting his stolen family sword (S1, 00:05:50); Venris Greystone, a cave-elf rogue obsessed with the legendary Rose Guard (S1, 00:03:06); and Abbas Visaegok, a grim cleric of Pharasma (S1, 00:07:18), pushed through the foggy marsh and into the ruins.
They learned the keep's battle scars were only weeks old. Mitflits, a baited slurk, and a giant maggot fell before them; they captured and "recruited" the crowned mitflit king Skrawng as a roped tour guide (S2, 00:50:33). They identified a stripped, broken teleportation circle (S2, 00:49:02), Abbas exorcised a vengeful blood-ghost tied to a recurring magical bloodstain (S2, 01:14:55), and they fought through a cold chapel of Nimbaloth, the Empty Death (S3, 04:13:42). Then the campaign's stakes followed them home: the Otari graveyard emptied itself of its dead, and Abbas held the line alone with Divine Lance until the rest raced up from town (S4, 00:08:11).

The town and its mayor hired the party to descend beneath the keep and stop whatever was happening (S5, 01:53:07). Deep below, Venris read a glowing plea — "I was Otari... save me from below!" — and chased a green ribbon of light downward, beginning a thread that would run for the rest of the campaign (S5, 04:20:01). The vaults nearly killed them repeatedly: a mist stalker far above their level, a skeletal giant, and ambushing shadows (S6; S7).
Politics emerged underground. The morlocks worshipped a "Ghost Queen," and the party played both sides — slaying a river drake for the snake-boss Graugus, posing as her servants, then betraying him to free captured Osprey Club prisoners (S7, 04:31:05; S8, 00:38:56). Rin's oracle reading framed the whole campaign: the Gauntlight is "a door," and more invasions of Otari will come (S9, 00:14:44). Paintings tied the haunting to Belcorra, "the Lady of the Light" (S9, 02:43:48) — the dark sorcerer the Rose Guard once defeated, now stirring below.
The party bargained with a bound jailer-devil to find its lost infernal contract (S10, 00:50:43), took their first real Otari downtime (S11), and pushed into a ghoul-infested library and the Cult of the Canker (S10, 02:07:50; S13, 04:19:27). Venris nearly died of ghoul fever (S13). A pivotal revelation surfaced: the legendary adventurer Otari Ilvashti died inside the keep and left the "save me below" message (S15, 04:38:05).

Sessions 16–17 closed older threads — the grieving "my love" ghost was laid to rest and the jailer-devil freed via a contract loophole (S16, 02:26:36) — while opening permanent scars: furnace ghosts burned away the heroes' memories, so Cidolfus forgot he was a priest and forgot his mother's name (S17, 01:56:57). Then the Gauntlight blazed blue over Otari and a wave of scalathraxes hit the fishery; a 3rd-level guardsman died holding the line (S18, 03:08:24). The party began to fear a recurring monthly invasion cycle — the last attack came exactly thirty days prior (S14, 00:43:59).
The central truth landed in S20: the Gauntlight is a weapon built to raze Absalom (S20, 04:09:54). The party disabled dioramas of besieged cities, fireballed a wood golem of Belcorra, and descended toward Leon Ironhaven and a cavern lake. They ground through Nimbaloth shrines, a banquet of skull-light skeletons, and a leech-swarm spellcaster who served the "queen" and called the graveyard dead "fertilizer for my master's return" (S23, 01:09:14). Notes confirmed the Gauntlight ritual is complete (S24, 00:12:11). The party recovered Belcorra's journal and the priceless, dangerous Nimbaloth tome The Whispering Reeds (S24, 03:42:47), which Abbas later read and survived (S27, 02:04:04). Abbas also learned the Awakened Portal ritual, restoring the vault's teleport circles (S24, 04:28:33). They slew the werewolf Jaul Mesman (S25, 00:15:57) and barely survived the Voidglutton, patron of the drow Vollok (S26). Two more named horrors, Vaughrrest and Volo, still lurk below (S26, 01:01:01).

Chasing the green light at last, the party met the ghost of Otari Ilvashti himself, who gave them the first of four Rose Guard icons needed to break a deep barrier — his skull-shaped Kalin Key (S28, 02:29:24). The remaining relics: the Rosa Argentis sword, the Threshold's Truth spellbook in Absalom's Anathenian Archives, and the Cloak of the Huntress in a sealed tomb below Otari (S32, 03:43:35).
The relic hunt detoured into a filth-fever quarantine at the Dawnflower library (S29, 02:08:40) and then the Menhemis family crypt, where a rot-corruption tunneled between sarcophagi and a spirit possessed Veve (S30, 04:52:45). She befriended the spirit ("Britney") rather than fight it (S31, 00:44:01). In the brutal finale, Venris touched the foul cancer and lost a hand to rot (S32, 04:01:28), the undead founder McLani rose, and a self-sacrificing Marigna psychopomp dissolved both herself and the cancer to nothing (S32). Veve received three parting spells; Venris and Cidolfus carry a lingering rot-paranoia (S32, 03:53:04).
Venris's lost hand would not grow back — the Otari clerics healed the wound but could not regrow the arm — so he fixed on getting one of Absalom's clockwork "auto-mail" prosthetics (S33, 00:01:06). Mayor Menhemis could only spare about 500 gold against a 2,000-gold price, but he handed over a sealed letter of introduction to Kaixyan, the catfolk head librarian of the Anathenium archives who guards the missing Thresholds of Truth spellbook (S33, 00:37:20). On the day's ride to the great city the party passed a burned-out, dammed flume and heard a werewolf howl under a full moon, and Venris suffered the first of many void-rot nightmares (S33).
In Absalom the party split up and worked the city for days. Abbas proved his wild story to the archive scholars by producing Belcorra's scalped journal pages, then survived a grueling "price of knowledge" ordeal to be shown the dangerous spellbook (S34, 00:04:38). Venris found the elf prosthetist Morhand and commissioned a transforming clockwork arm that could hide and become a weapon (S34). They joined the Pathfinder Society for access (S34) and, by studying the recovered spellbook, the whole party was magically granted a Free Archetype — Venris locked in Ghost Hunter and became a minor spellcaster who can use wands and scrolls (S35, 02:55:40). Abbas confirmed they now hold all four relics for the locked door at Otari (S35, 00:18:39).
Venris returned with his new arm — a clockwork hand that becomes a ghost-touch blade and lets him sense the dead — and the party portaled back into the seventh floor of the Abomination Vaults (S36, 00:01:06). They ground through packs of acid-spitting, exploding gibbering mouthers and a room of goblin mimics (S36). On a fresh floor they found a magical one-way scrying wall, paintings of an alien night sky, and a third teleportation circle they began bringing online as an escape route (S37). Behind a deliberately runed, staked-shut door they heard a voice beg for help: Shakim, an undead mummy and former servant of Belcorra, trapped for centuries by a different, more dangerous servant who now rules these floors (S37).
The Rose Guard relics finally dropped the deep fire barrier. Pushing in, the party freed Shakim and struck a bargain — but it soured the moment the mummy started handing out chores, so they broke off to scout (S40, 02:19:30). Shakim's price firmed up over the next sessions: kill the worm-like flesh-warper Jafuque ("Jeff Key"), the master servant who took over the laboratories, in exchange for a dungeon map (S41). Between fights they pieced together the true horror under it all — Nimbaloth, the Empty Death, a force-of-nature "goddess" that consumes everything to nothing, and the "ring of seven divots" where a hand placed inside returns as if it had never existed (S40, 00:32:17; S40, 00:38:31). Venris's missing hand and worsening nightmares were a brush with that very death. Venris cleared a deadly six-plate blade trap one cycle at a time and repaired the Awakened Portal circle solo (S41).
The far wing was a Gauntlight of spirits. The party put down a frightening specter once Venris's ghost-touch arm let his precision damage bite, escaped a chain death-trap that nearly killed Venris, and beheaded a regenerating chain spirit after confirming Cidolfus's Rosa Argentis longsword counts as silver (S42). A cackling, bird-like jester stalked them for a whole session before Venris long-jumped a pit and tackled it (S42). They finished the shadow assassin Cora Fallow Glade — Belcorra's chief killer — and looted her crumbling poison codex (Venris copied four venom recipes before it dusted) and a magic disguise scarf (S44, 00:56:34; S44, 01:20:24).
Then came the Coliseum and its salesman-calm masked host — an ancient self-made mummy from the Gauntlight era who runs a bloody "Red Holiday" of death-matches for treasure (S44, 01:53:05; S45, 01:17:16). Venris won a near-death solo bout against the great-axe Executioner while the others fought petrifying basilisks (S45). They learned the matches are best-of-three with no healing between rounds and wisely cashed out (S46). The arena's host, this "Cheery Man," became a recurring figure — and he too wants Jafuque dead (S46). Following music through a hidden door, the party found the Warp Brood Tavern, a Darklands speakeasy whose house band challenged them to a performance contest instead of a brawl; the party swept it and learned the lay of the land — the Sagathi flesh-warpers, led by Jafuque, rule this territory (S47).
The deeper the party went, the more two slow horrors closed in. The first was a town crisis: Venris kept catching foul afflictions — a contagious zombie-fungus rot from the Gauntlight moss that forced a quarantine at the Dawnflower library (S38, 00:05:22), and later a Velstrack disease. Father Thalos recognized that Venris bears the same dust-turning "empty death" curse that killed his apprentice in two days (S38), and Abbas began burning through Cleanse Affliction castings to keep him alive.
The second was the mayor's young daughter, Doriana. The party found her gravely, magically ill — gaunt, nightmare-ridden, drawing a "Motley Man" friend and bearing the word "LENG" scratched into her wrist (S39, 01:07:46; S49, 05:15:00). She was being drained by a Denizen of Leng working through a cursed ruby that kept reappearing inside whichever stuffed toy she held (S49, 06:33:49). Veve could dispel it for a night, but only killing the creature would free her (S49).
Meanwhile the party broke into the laboratories. They freed three flesh-warp prisoners — and gave a mercy kill to a drow named Falksy's own flesh-warped brother, letting Falksy strike the final blow (S49, 02:08:15). Shakim filled in the floor's bloody history: Jafuque, Belcorra's first and greatest flesh-warper, killed the loyalist bone devil after her death, sparking a months-long Sagathi-devil war that ended in a wary truce, until the Cheery Man tricked and imprisoned Shakim himself (S49, 03:44:13). Reading deep in the Whispering Reeds, Abbas finally uncovered the empty death's full mechanics — a cursed soul becomes a tormented ghost and is eventually consumed and annihilated by Nimbaloth — and confirmed it is exactly what is killing Venris (S50, 03:44:13). The book holds no cure, but careful use can stall the fate and even be turned into a weapon against the Empty Death (S51). Zarmavdian's hidden journal pages stay locked behind a "key" the party does not yet have (S51).
To save Doriana the party had to name and find her tormentor. Rin opened the cursed ruby and identified it as a Denizen of Leng conduit into the dimension of dreams; a night-long attunement let Veve divine the villain's name — Yazongleer — and unlock a once-per-day 5th-level Locate that hunts only him (S54, 01:12:43). They followed that signal back into the Gauntlight, sneaking past a devil-drilled brigade and a patrolling 9th-level witchfire (S54, 02:49:16).
First, though, they honored the mummy's bargain. They cut down Jafuque — the invisible, ceiling-clinging flesh-warper boss — by wrecking his whole laboratory to bait him out, then pinning and stabbing him, and they destroyed his flesh-golem machine so its knowledge couldn't spread (S53, 01:07:53). Then they double-crossed the floor's mummy spellcaster: the instant it handed over a corrected map, Abbas cast a subtle Silence to muzzle its spellcasting and the party burned it down with Holy Light and the Rosa Argentis (S53, 01:51:30). Both bosses fell, and everyone reached level 8 (S53, 03:42:47). Finally they cornered Yazongleer himself — and killed him; Venris opened him with an Organ Sight crit before his body crumbled to dust (S55, 00:31:13). They burned his shrine of trophy hands and recovered a Leng ruby plus a strange black-and-red metal fragment, clearly one piece of a larger set (S55). A long, brutal fight against a magic-immune, Darkness-casting will-o-wisp — a fallen priest of Pharasma — closed out the floor (S55).

With Doriana's tormentor dead, the party turned back to the Gauntlight itself. They shut down the 9th-level witchfire — a hag Belcorra had burned alive — by silencing it before it could cast its worst spell (S56, 01:23:36). In a menagerie of monsters frozen in glowing pillars and a scrying room still watched by Belcorra's hateful gaze, they grabbed talismans and a strange gem (S56, 01:57:02). Climbing out, they met the campaign's most terrifying hunter: a grave knight of Nimbaloth, far above their level and able to see through invisibility, who greeted them with "Finally, there you are" (S56, 02:33:22). They fled in a long running retreat — Venris tripping the knight with a bola and lobbing keys while the party teleport-circled up and out — as it screamed that their flesh would be "fed to the hound" (S56). Back in Otari, a fully healed Doriana was revealed as a budding psychic, her ruby had turned into a Wand of Locate, and Rin begged the party to never engage the grave knight (S56, 03:44:14; S56, 04:09:28).
Abbas then spent long, lore-heavy sessions piecing the weapon together. Reviewing every journal and note, he surfaced the riddle of the fulcrum, the lattice, and the four lenses — Belcorra's plan to tear down the old lattice and build one that obeys, to make the Gauntlight "a sword, and it will burn" (S58). The recovered Lantern of Empty Light proved to be a failed lens experiment, glowing with the same pale-blue empty light (S58). The session's gut-punch came at Otari's ghost: told that roughly 500 years had passed, he touched the party's Rose Guard relics and concluded that fragments of his dead comrades' souls are bound inside them, never having crossed the river of souls — and that to read the book's locked final pages, the party must find their maker, a dwarf comrade who was a hidden necromancer, or sever the binding (S58). Yet Abbas's own secret check concluded the souls are not actually in the relics — a contradiction left open (S58). Slipping the grave knight again, the party bled out the Barbazu captain Corloc and confirmed the Gauntlight is, quite literally, a death-beam aimed at the world (S59).

Now level 8, the party pushed into the lowest prison level, the realm of the devils. They disabled a life-sensing alarm by gluing a chakram over its crystal, cleared barracks of lightning Dreshkins and exploding Movitok healers, and rescued Sinemi, a starving horned tiefling bounty hunter (S60, 03:12:01). Sinemi spilled crucial intel: a devil named Aravian (also called Irvane) holds a "captured alive" bounty on the blacksmith Carman Rajani, lairs behind a sigiled five-pointed-star door beside a Hellfire Forge, and the giant armored grave knight — named Kalido — roams as a higher-up; an elevator leads down to a drow city (S60, 03:28:02; S60, 03:39:51).
They breached the Hellforge and killed its winged forge-master, claiming a unique flaming Hellforge glaive and a third silver shard for the pentagram door — three of five (S61, 03:03:26; S61, 03:19:14). Past the forge, an elevator down to the Darklands was sealed by a Wall of Force, and a riddling Oscelus inquisitor devil watched from behind a "DO NOT DISTURB" door before the party ground it apart (S61). A centuries-stuck imp named Sizek confirmed the layout: the boss Aravian has sealed himself behind the five-piece door, the route deeper is blocked by rubble that would take weeks to clear, the devils were summoned by Belcorra herself, and the grave knight is Kalido Harovex, a mercenary "cousin of Cora" (S62, 00:42:36; S62, 00:51:59). Sent upstairs to find the fifth amulet piece — held by a serpent in the waters of the laboratories — the party fought mossy sodhounds and a living-landslide golem, then a pair of regenerating five-headed hydras they finally cauterized down with the fire-tagged Hellforge glaive. The hydras carried no amulet piece, so the party launched a folding boat onto the dark pool to keep searching (S62, 03:20:43).
S63 resolved that flooded-chamber cliffhanger. Abbas used Detect Magic and light to locate the submerged source, Venris dove for it, and the hidden star glagon ambushed him as he grabbed a bracelet-like item (S63, 00:17:24; S63, 00:30:43; S63, 00:35:51). The fight stayed ugly because the creature raised the water level, abused the terrain, and finally destroyed the Greater Folding Boat with a critical bite (S63, 01:10:03; S63, 03:07:51). Veve ended it with a critical Telekinetic Projectile, and the party recovered both a Lesser Armory Bracelet for Abbas and a fourth silver/star-pendant fragment (S63, 03:06:30; S63, 03:12:00; S63, 03:12:41). With four of five pieces in hand, Abbas recalled Sizek's claim that the lock might be fooled into accepting four as five, then cast Augury about Khalido/Kalido Harvex before recommending the party return to town (S63, 03:12:56; S63, 03:19:39; S63, 03:21:28).
S64 was the breath before the next door. The party slipped away from heavy grave-knight footsteps rather than risk a fight (S64, 00:36:22), confirmed Doriana was fully healed but secretly developing telekinetic powers (S64, 00:50:30; S64, 00:51:55), and warned Carman that Uravian had put a bounty on his head (S64, 01:09:28). Bandy gave Cid holy water and connected the Rajani name to Nidal royalty (S64, 01:19:53; S64, 01:25:30), while town errands produced water-breathing potions, rune work, income, and deferred shopping plans. Cid also learned Rosa Argentis can activate the Blossom Veil near Carman before receiving a resilient rune (S64, 02:53:58; S64, 02:59:21). After researching Uravian as a contract devil and Kalido as a grave knight, the party returned to the sigiled door; Abbas prayed, cast Detect Magic, and the four-piece workaround seemed to take as the runes lit and the door began to open (S64, 03:50:30; S64, 04:14:33).
The active threads, dangers, and open questions a returning player needs, current as of S64. Resolved threads are omitted. Each item cites its most recent session evidence.
To break the old barrier deep in the Vaults, the party needs four Rose Guard icons (S28, 02:29:24; S32, 03:43:35):
