Current state

Bandy Vanderdash is a cleric of Sarenrae and the head librarian/proprietor of the Dawnflower Library in Otari. She is an esteemed local figure who serves the town in multiple civic capacities. When the party first met her [S11], she was immediately friendly, offering retraining, library access, spell discounts, and a quest to find a missing group of adventurers who had been hired to investigate the town's disappearances. She provided a journal as the initial lead. Her civic role expanded over time. She sat as one of three judges at Carman Rajani's trial [S25], reading out the charges and final verdict, and was personally resistant to leniency given the damage the library arson had caused. She is also a council member; the mayor consulted her about real damages from that same fire [S20]. Bandy's most active period came during the filth-fever outbreak linked to the Huntress's tomb. She led the quarantine response, revealed she had locked the tomb after a priest reported something disturbing inside, and volunteered to accompany the party underground once the outbreak stabilized [S29]. She followed through, briefing and entering the crypt alongside the adventurers [S30], casting divine lance, identifying mummies as being externally controlled, and suffering a critical failure on a void blast at session's end [S31]. After the crypt crisis she apologized for underestimating the severity of what lay inside [S32]. Later, when examining Venris's afflicted arm, she was so terrified by what she perceived that she fled [S38]. As of [S50] she continued to serve as a library contact, consulted about a curse and a Locate spell — she was shocked by the reference to "the innocents of Lang" and nearly recalled something but could not. Her journal remained among the party's collected sources as of [S58]. As of [S64], Bandy is still recovering through prayer after the campaign's recent crises, but remains useful as a Dawnflower contact: she gives Cid two holy waters and shares lore pointing from Vol Rajani toward Nidal and possible royal-bloodline claims.

Story

Bandy Vanderdash — Full Campaign Arc

Bandy Vanderdash enters the campaign as one of Otari's most trusted public figures: head librarian of the Dawnflower Library, cleric of Sarenrae, and a warm first contact for the arriving adventurers. In [S11] she greets the party with genuine goodwill — offering spells at a discount, retraining support, and a personal quest to find a missing band of adventurers who had been sent to investigate the town's disappearances. She hands over a journal as the seed of that investigation, and she can point the party toward a Pharasma priest if their questions run in that direction. The library is her domain in more than one sense: it functions as a temple, a civic hub, and under her stewardship a genuine resource.

By [S12] she has already passed Visigok a ledger connected to the vanished party, cementing her early role as the person who holds the town's records and is willing to share them when it matters. Through the long downtime recapped in [S13] the party grows well-acquainted with her, a detail the GM flags as meaningful context.

When the arsonist Carman Rajani targets the library, Bandy's standing in town governance becomes explicit. She is an Otari council member [S20], and the mayor moves to consult her about actual damages — she is not a passive victim but an official whose assessment matters. Before that, in [S19], she had asked the party directly to recover the stolen Rose Argent and made clear that Carman's repeated transgressions had finally crossed a line she would not excuse.

The trial of Carman [S25] is a high point of her civic function. Bandy sits as one of three judges, reads the charges and delivers the final verdict, and is personally resistant to any call for leniency. The library fire was not abstract harm to her; she bore it. Her deliberation checks failed, the record notes, but her intent was always public service rather than personal revenge.

The crypt arc is where Bandy shifts from civic official to active field ally. When a filth-fever outbreak strikes Otari, she takes charge of the quarantine [S29]. She discloses that the Huntress's tomb had been deliberately locked after one of her priests reported something deeply wrong inside — knowledge she had held, and now shares. She offers to go in with the party once the sick are stable. She keeps that promise. In [S30] she briefs the adventurers and descends into the crypt alongside them, gets genuinely frightened by a haunt but holds herself together, and assists with prayers and exorcism work. In [S31] she is more than a bystander: she casts divine lance, makes the observation that the mummies appear to be externally controlled rather than acting on their own volition, and suffers a critical failure on a void blast as the session ends. After the crisis passes [S32] she heals the party's fighter, casts shield on herself out of residual fear, and apologizes — quietly and sincerely — for not grasping how serious the situation truly was.

The later sessions reveal a Bandy whose composure is being tested by what the campaign keeps uncovering. In [S38], when she examines Venris's afflicted arm and tries a Cleanse Affliction (failing the rank-2 counteract), she is so disturbed by what she perceives that she bolts outright. The table's own description — "go nuts like Bandy did" — captures how badly her reaction registers as a warning gauge of the affliction's severity. Veve tries to calm her. The moment is played partly for dark comedy, but it also marks a shift: Bandy, the unflappable civic anchor, has been rattled.

In [S50], Abbas consults her about a curse and a Locate spell. She is shocked by the reference to "the innocents of Lang," a phrase she has never encountered. She nearly recalls something but cannot pull it forward. She lacks the magic required. The scene cements her later-campaign role: she is still a trusted contact and a genuine asset, but the mysteries the party is pursuing now exceed what Otari's Dawnflower Library holds.

As of [S58], Bandy Vanderdash does not appear in person but her journal is among the sources the party has collected, and she is raised as a hypothetical extra portal-user — present in the archive of the campaign's accumulated knowledge even when absent from the room.

S64 returns Bandy to direct play. Cid visits her at the Dawnflower Library, where she is recovering through prayer and trying to keep the dark thoughts away after recent events [S64, 01:16:22; S64, 01:17:47]. She gives Cid two holy waters and says more can be procured with materials/payment [S64, 01:19:53; S64, 01:20:09]. She also contributes the first clear town-side lore pointing from Vol Rajani toward Nidal and possible Rajani royal-bloodline claims, which the party connects back to Uravian's interest in Carman [S64, 01:23:26; S64, 01:25:30].
