Aesephana Menhemes

npc active

Current state

Aesephana Menhemes is a legendary founding member of the Rose Guard and the figure for whom the Menhemes family crypt is named. She was spoken of gently by Otari — possibly as someone he loved — and her relic is the Cloak of the Huntress [S28]. The crypt's second level holds no actual tomb: only a statue, her belongings, and that cloak, because her body decomposed and vanished entirely within days of her death [S30]. A long-suppressed family rumor holds that Aesephana herself killed Bulrajani after Rajani went mad — but later sessions revealed a fuller picture. Per accounts pieced together by the party, she interjected to stop the maddened Vol (whom the rest of the Rose Guard then killed), suffered a similar affliction afterward, and ultimately took her own life — crumbling to dust as well, with the truth known only to her family [S50]. The party also recalled that Aesephana had killed Belcorra and showed early symptoms matching Venris's affliction; the artificer Tarnak was aware of her condition and built something intended to help [S39]. Aesephana's fate is now understood as a direct precursor to the curse at the heart of Gauntlight. By S32 the party had already begun theorizing that her legacy was being actively targeted by the crypt's corruption and by Belcorra's lingering influence [S32], and as of S50 she is still theorized to be the specific legacy Belcorra is working to erase or exploit.
