Tengu Spirit ('Britney')

monster active

Current state

Tengu Spirit ('Britney') is a Tengu ghost encountered on the second level of the Menhemis crypt — a formerly mortal adventurer whose restless spirit lingered in the dungeon, terrified of being consumed by the same empty-death corruption he had witnessed devouring souls. He has no connection to the Menhaem family. The spirit first appeared as an ethereal blurred figure that rushed Veve and seized full possession of her body [S30]. Speaking Dwarven, then Tengu, then Common in a distinctly Tengu voice, it demanded release; Cid suspected a ghost attempting to pass itself off in a living body, but no exorcism was completed that session. In the following session the spirit — possessing Veve and speaking Necril and Tengu — was initially hostile before being calmed by Soothe [S31]. Once pacified it became friendly but visibly terrified, casting Spiritual Attunement to cry out to the Boneyard and beg psychopomps to judge a corruption it described as something that 'devours the rightful flow of souls.' It anchored Veve to the crypt room and would not release her. By S32 the spirit's identity and purpose came into full view: a mortal adventurer who had died fearing absorption by the empty-death entity. Before finally releasing Veve and departing to his rest he passed his spells down to her as a parting gift and urged the party to hold position, insisting a psychopomp was on her way — 'she is coming.' He gave himself the name 'Britney,' which the party adopted; Veve's companions took to calling him her 'spirit buddy.' As of S32, Britney has been released to the Boneyard. His spells persist with Veve, and his warning about the incoming psychopomp remains open.
