Mummies are undead creatures the party first encountered as animated McLennan-family remains deep in a crypt. In that initial combat [S32, 01:03:19], the mummies posed a serious hazard: their fists inflicted mummy rot disease, their presence exuded a sickening stench that left victims sickened and slowed, and one mummy-priest among them cast Divine Lance and other spells. The party whittled them down across a drawn-out fight. Mummies recur as a recognized undead category throughout the later campaign. When the party briefed Shakim on undead threats [S37, 03:59:17], they described a mummy variant that uses magic-preserved paper as the mechanism sustaining its existence — a detail that extended the mummy theme beyond the McLennan crypt encounter. During pre-delve research before a return to Gauntlight [S38, 02:57:10], the party recalled mummies among the known dungeon threats via Recall Knowledge, and a figure referred to informally as "the mummy guy" (a name approximated as Yafiki or Jafar) was linked to a betrayer connected to the catacombs. As of [S42, 00:03:01], the party had freed and questioned a mummy in the prior session (off-screen by this point). That mummy provided actionable intelligence: it explained the Coliseum and portal situation, identified Victoria as a lead, and supplied a map. The creature was not present on-screen in S42 itself, but its information carried directly into the party's next moves. Mummies thus shifted across the campaign from purely hostile combatants into occasional sources of lore and direction.
